“For the first time I lost weight without a cramp”

I’ve been going to the gym for about a year and a half and am busy tinkering with my diet. Two years ago I was diagnosed with high blood pressure. My doctor prescribed me medication to prevent worse.

As you can probably guess, it wasn’t a nice moment for me. Above all, I didn’t want to accept that I would live with medication and high blood pressure for the time being.

So I decided: “Let’s go for the bacon!”

At that time I weighed just over 100 kg and I didn’t really know where to start. I have tried to lose weight several times and so far have always gotten to know the yo-yo effect.

But I went about it – slowly, step by step. First I decided to try a combination of strength training and endurance sports.

That worked quite well: The pounds dropped and I soon needed a belt because my pants were becoming looser.

After half a year I only weighed 95 kg. Above all, my blood pressure values got better and better and I needed less medication.

By a “stupid” coincidence, I began to measure my blood sugar level.

Ironically, I first had to get sick: A year ago I lay flat with the flu for two weeks and was bored to death.

Since I work as a nurse, I have all possible measuring devices at hand – including a blood glucose meter. Out of boredom, I began to measure my fasting blood sugar level in the morning.

I was scared!

Values below 100 mg% are normal. I got 120 mg% which is way too high. I felt panic gripping me: was I moving towards diabetes?

To be on the safe side, I carried out further measurements for weeks. But my fears were confirmed. Apparently I had developed something called prediabetes. So if I wanted to turn things around, then I had to act.

My doctor calmed me down a little. Because the other blood values were okay, even if at the upper end of the green range.

I set myself a goal: to get my fasting blood sugar level below 100 mg%.

So it was I’ll stick with it.

At this point in time, I had been training in the gym for nine months and had improved various things in my diet. I got the suggestions for this from your podcast and books, among other things. The tips from Sarah Tschernigow and the nutrition docs also helped me.

I began to consistently measure once a week: weight, body fat percentage, abdominal circumference, blood pressure and blood sugar.

My big sticking out I had the moment in autumn.

I still remember the morning exactly. I measured my blood sugar level and – FINALLY – the meter spat out a value that was in the green area: 88 mg%.

I was relieved, happy and full of confidence that I had averted a health disaster. The knowledge that I was in control of my health filled me with pride and happiness.

Through my work, I see what diabetes does to people every day. I don’t feel like it!

So it made me all the more satisfied that I lost fat for the very first time without a cramp.

What should I say? I lost 12 kg in one year. My blood pressure readings are back in the green, as is my blood sugar level. I don’t need any medication anymore.

Today I know it works! Above all, it works without a bad mood and frustration.
